Co-op in Review: April 23, 2015

This week, we started studying the Imperial Roman period in depth.  And, we will be continuing to study it for the remainder of the year!  This week, we learned about the Roman Empire and it's role in the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Jesus's life, death and resurrection are the pinnacle events in all of human history and they occurred during the period of the Roman Empire in a land that was controlled by Rome.  The Dialectic class continued their in-depth studies of Rome and worked hard on their projects.  The Upper Grammar class made beautiful and creative Roman homes out of shoeboxes--as their class discussed every day life in the Roman Republic.  The Lower Grammar class learned about gladiators.  Gladiator fights were very popular during this period in Rome.  They then made shields like the gladiators would have used in battle.  The Five in a Row class read the book, "The Raft."  It's the story of a city boy who is forced to spend the summer with his grandmother in rural Wisconsin.  But, when he finds a raft, a whole new world of discovery is opened up for him.  The kids did crafts and activities all about the animals that Nicky discovers while exploring on his raft.
