Co-op in Review: September 29, 2016

This week, we concluded our studies of South America.  The older classes studied the presidency of James Monroe and the Monroe Doctrine as well.  The Rhetoric kids completed their wood carvings, in a rather relaxed style!  The Dialectic kids had a blast debating which candidate should win the election:  Clinton or Trump.  They also finished their Road to the Whitehouse game boards.  The Upper Grammar class played games relating to South America and painted clay bowls.  The Lower Grammar class made lovely candles.  And, the Five in a Row class read the book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  They had fun outside hunting for caterpillars and whatever else they could find!

Co-op in Review: September 22, 2016

This week, our Tapestry classes continue to study South America, focusing on South America's battles and struggles for independence.  The Rhetoric kids continued to work on their whittling projects.  The Dialectic kids learned more about politics and elections in America, taking an ideology quiz and continuing to work on their game boards.  The Upper Grammar class made awesome, beaded rainsticks.  And, the Lower Grammar class made clay pots and posters.  The Five in a Row class read the book,  "Ox Cart Man."  It's the story of a New Englander who packs up his cart and sells his wares to support his family.  The kids then made adorable Ox Carts.  

Co-op in Review: September 15, 2016

This week begins at week begins a three week unit on the history, geography and culture of South America.  Older classes will focus on the early life and career of liberator Simon Bolivar.  The Dialectic class will take a break from history studies for the next three weeks as they study American elections and specifically the 2016 Presidential Election.  The Rhetoric class learned knife skills this week, and practiced their whittling by carving wood creations such as canoes and pencils.  The Dialectic class started working on their election project--a game showing the road to the White House.  The Upper Grammar class made salt maps of South America.  While the Lower Grammar class made beautiful South America vests.  The Five in a Row class read the book, "Millions of Cats."  They then did some amazing cat paintings and learned to walk like a cat!
