Co-op Christmas Party!

Tapestry of the Desert celebrated Christmas with a rockin' Christmas Party!  Party planning maven, Mrs. Tammany, had planned minute-to-win-it games for the kids to compete against each other in and then the kids did a present-passing gift exchange. It was a blast.  We had fun together playing games, eating treats, passing around gifts but most importantly, celebrating the birth of Jesus, our savior! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Co-op in Review: December 1, 2016

This week was our final week of Co-op before Christmas!  And, though we were anxious to be on break, we had a full week of work to do before we could be done for the year!  This week, our students studied the presidencies of James K. Polk, Morse Code and the telegraph, the Mexican-American War and the westward movement of the Mormons.  The Lower Grammar made awesome, musical, Mexican maracas.  The Upper Grammar class made models of Native American dwellings.  The Dialectic class had a Mexican fiesta with tamales, guacamole and more!  The Rhetoric class finished their Victorian wreaths and strung old fashioned garlands out of cranberries and popcorn. The Five in a Row class read the book, "Roxaboxen".  Then then made their own models of Roxaboxen our of beans and pebbles.  

Co-op in Review: November 17, 2016

This week, our studies had us learning about some sad events in American history.  Earlier, we learned about the Indian Removal Act, and this week, we learned about the result of that horrible law--the Trail of Tears, which was the Cherokee Indian's journey from their homes in Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina to Oklahoma.  We also learned about Manifest Destiny--the idea that the entire North American continent should be conquered by America.  And, the older kids learned about the beginnings of the Abolitionist movement in America.  The Lower Grammar class played some fun games.  The Upper Grammar class made dioramas of Native American life.  The Dialectic class made Mexican maracas.  And, the Rhetoric class continued weaving ribbon to make Victorian wreaths.  The Five in a Row class read the book, "The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear."  In this book, the Little Mouse will do anything to save the strawberry from the Big Hungry Bear!  The kids had a blast making crafts related to this story!

Co-op Election Party 2016

Every four years, our country holds a Presidential Election.  And, every four years, our co-op holds and Election Night Party!  The kids voted, filled in electoral college maps and watched carefully as the returns came in from across the country.  By the end of the night, we were pretty sure that Donald J. Trump would be the 45th President of the United States!
