This week, we studied the end of the Middle Ages. As trade routes to the east opened up, there grew more and more of a demand for merchants and traders to meet, which contributed more and more to the rise of towns and villages, and contributed to the decline of the manor and feudal systems. Peasants left manors for towns, looking for a better life for their families and for greater opportunities in occupations other than farming. Europe was changing! Our Dialectic class worked on a beautiful stained glass project, which they will complete in coming weeks. The Upper Grammar class completed their salt maps of the route of Marco Polo, by painting them. The Lower Grammar class made medieval goblets, with jewels and glitter. And, the Five in a Row class read the classic book, "Goodnight Moon." They then made their own moon windows and made the stages of the moon out of Oreos! Great job to all of our Tapestry of the Desert students and teachers! We've made it through the first quarter of the school year and are excitedly looking forward to the rest of our studies in units 2, 3, and 4.
