Field Trip to the Children's Museum of Phoenix!

Our field trip to the Children's Museum of Phoenix was a blast! The kids had a great time exploring all of the areas of the museum. Some of their favorites were the Art Studio, the Noodle Forest, the Pit Stop and the Texture Cafe. What a great field trip to cap off an amazing year at co-op!

Riding the Light Rail!

On Wednesday, May 19, Tapestry of the Desert took it's last field trip of the year. We went to the Children's Museum of Phoenix. Many of the families decided to go to the museum by Metro Light Rail. We caught the train in Tempe and rode into Phoenix together. It was a lot of fun!

Co-op in Review: May 12, 2010

This was our last co-op meeting of the 2009/2010 school year! When asked, all of the kids said that they were sad that co-op is done for the year. But, when the moms were asked, we all agreed that we are ready for a break! How encouraging to hear that the kids really enjoy their time together each week! We made some wonderful memories, had many laughs and developed some very special relationships with one another this school year. We have so much to be thankful for! Co-op this week started out with a treat: Mrs. Canode gave a music appreciation lesson and played the cello for the kids! They loved it! During class time, the Upper Grammar kids spend their time reviewing what they have learned this Unit. The Lower Grammar boys read some poetry written by Shel Silverstein and then wrote some poems of their own! The Five in a Row kids read "A House for Hermit Crab." They made little crabs out of paper plates and decorated them with all kinds of interesting objects!

Co-op in Review: May 5, 2010

In co-op this week, the Upper Grammar kids celebrated some very important people: their moms!! They made mother's day cards and gifts and did a great mapping/geography review. The Lower Grammar boys discussed the classic book, "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." They each made a replica wardrobe out of a cereal box! The Five-In-A-Row kids read a really sweet story, "The Giving Tree". The tree in this story shows so many of the Fruits of the Spirit--love, patience, faithfulness, joy, peace, kindness and goodness. After discussing the book and what it means to have "fruit" in their lives, the kids made Fruit of the Spirit mobiles.

Co-op in Review: April 28, 2010

In co-op this week, we entered the high-tech world of computers. Both Tapestry of Grace classes studied the history and function of these modern-day necessities. The Upper Grammar kids made books describing the history of computers, were able to see and touch many different computer parts and then learned all about the kinds of circuits that make up the inner workings of computers. The very knowledgeable Mrs. Canode even taught the kids how to make their own circuits. The Lower Grammar class was taught by computer whiz, Mr. Glazier. He took apart a computer to show to the boys all the different parts. Then he told some very funny computer stories, he had everyone in stitches! Downstairs, the Five in a Row kids read "The Grouchy Ladybug." Throughout this story, the bad-tempered, bragging lady bug becomes a nicer, happier, better-behaved bug! The kids then painted their own adorable lady bugs out of river rocks. They also made cute lady bug clock faces!
