This week in co-op we are studying the 1960's. The idyllic 50's are over and now America is seeing turmoil in race relations, inner cities crime and poverty and international concerns as the fear of communism is spreading. But, we have a new, energetic and young president who is inspiring the younger generation and older at the same time. Yet, John F. Kennedy is facing a major crisis in his young and short-lived presidency. The Cold War is heating up with Russia bringing missiles to Cuba, just a few miles off the coast of Florida. This would be known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Many thought it would lead to World War III, but Kennedy was able to avoid this fate. Our kids learned about the problems facing the Kennedy administration as well as about the art and culture of the decade. The Five in a Row class read the book, "Night of the Moonjellies" and made an adorable jellyfish craft!
