Co-op in Review: April 7, 2016

This week in co-op we began our time together with a service project.  As a class, we made blessing bags, filled with water, snacks, chopstick and other essentials.  These bags are to be handed out to homeless people we meet as we are going about our lives.  After putting together the bags, we headed to our individual classes.  The Tapestry students are learning about a change in the attitude of the British towards her American colonies.  Before the French and Indian War, Britain was pretty hands-off with the colonies.  But, after the war, Britain was in debt and felt like she needed to start taxing the colonies more and more.  The Americans became more and more agitated.  And, groups like the Sons of Liberty started forming and demonstrations like the Boston Tea Party began happening.  Things are getting rather stirred up, and some are even talking of Revolution.  The Rhetoric class started painting wooden Revolutionary soldiers.  The Dialectic class did a Revolutionary War simulation.  The Upper Grammar class made wooden soldiers as well.  The Lower Grammar class wrote with quill pens and made a journal.  And, the Five in a Row class read the classic, crazy-weather tale, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs."  They then made mobiles with pictures of food.

Field Trip: Renaissance Festival

On Tuesday, March 1, our Co-op had it's second field trip of the year.  We celebrated all things Renaissance and Medieval at the Arizona Renaissance Festival.  We saw jousting, sword swallowing, fire eating, whip cracking and so much more.  Huzzah!!

Tapestry Mom's Night Out

Actually, it was a mom's night in.  Carina Cervantez, a wonderful hostess, invited all of the co-op ladies to her home for an evening of fabulous food, awesome fellowship and a pretty clever game as well!  We had a blast together, laughing and talking and of course, eating!  Carina, it was an lovely evening, thank you so much for loving us and serving us so graciously.

Co-op in Review: February 25, 2016

This week, our Tapestry students continued to learn about the Native American tribes of North America, as they studied their customs and believes.  They learned how they traded goods and they learned specifically about the lifestyles, homes and customs of those in the Iroquois League.  Additionally, our oldest students' studies took them to Europe where they learned about King Philip's War and the reign of King George I.  The Rhetoric class continued to work on their amazing Colonial Gameboards.  The Dialectic kids made colonial poster maps.  The UG kids made and played traditional Iroquois games.  The Lower Grammar kids made Native American vests and yummy teepees out of ice cream cones.  And, the FIAR class read the book, "The Story about Ping".  It's the tale of a little yellow duck who gets lost from his family and has some amazing adventures on the Yangtze River in China.  They then made a duck on a pond storyboard.
