Our second week, and things are going great! This week, the Dialectic class truly learned a lesson in perseverance and patience as they put together beautiful paper crafted models of the Arc De Triomphe. The Arc, which is still one of Paris' most famous landmarks today, was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to celebrate his military victories. However, the Arc was not completed before Napoleon was ousted from power and was completed in 1836. The kids did a great job and really should be proud of their models!! Like the Dialectic class, the Upper Grammar boys also studied the end of the French Revolution and the years of Napoleonic rule in France. They learned about the turbulent times in France during the later part of the 1700s. And, why someone as tyrannical as Napoleon could come to power. They discussed Napoleon's life, military victories and his great defeat in Moscow. Napoleon was exiled twice, but came back between his periods of exile and mounted a bit of a comeback, but was finally defeated at the famous battle of Waterloo. The boys made a special Napoleon cake, like the one the Napoleon was said to have loved so much. The Lower Grammar kids also discussed Napoleon and his life, victories and defeats. What a character he was! And, is only goal in life was to take over the world! The Lower Grammar class made crowns in honor of Napoleon, who crowned himself Emperor! The Five in a Row class read the book, "The Runaway Bunny." It's the story of a bunny who plays an imaginary game of hide and seek, yet his loving mother always finds him! The kids made some bunny puppets and then made an adorable bunny wind sock!
