First Day of Co-Op!

The first day of Co-Op for the 2012-2013 school year was August 2, 2012.  We have four awesome new families, a new class (Dialectic) and a new location, Arizona Community Church.  With all this newness, comes some adjustments . . . but also some excitement!  The Dialectic Class which consists of the 6th, 7th and 8th graders reviewed what is happening in our new nation and also what is happening in France during the late 18th century.  The six kids did a read-aloud play on the French Revolution which culminated with the beheading of King Louis XVI.  They also made a really neat beaded American Flag craft.  The Upper Grammar class and Lower Grammar class both learned all about the White House.  John Adams was the first president to live in the White House, and it was still very much under construction when he and his family moved in.  The Federal City, as Washington DC was called before the death of George Washington, was still being designed and was very much in a rural, undeveloped area near the Potomac.  The kids of both classes made a model of the White House out of Popsicle sticks and white paint.  They did a great job!  Meanwhile, the Five in A Row class (babies to Kindergarten) read the book The Carrot Seed.  It's a classic book about a little boy who plants a carrot seed, and waits for it to grow--and does it ever grow!!  The kids made a carrot craft out of yellow and red construction paper and did a note booking page of carrot themed activities.   This school year is off to a fantastic start--it's going to be a great year!
