This week, we started learning about some of the things that made the decade of the 1960's pretty tumultuous. The kids learned more about the Civil Rights Movement and the movement's most famous leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They learned about the struggles of school integration, most notably in Little Rock, Arkansas. And, they learned about restaurant sit-ins and other means of non-violent protest. The Dialectic class started a long-term project, building a huge bus that will help them tell of the struggles of the Civil Rights pioneers. The Upper Grammar class continued to study the emergence of fast food, this week, focusing on the economics of fast food. The Lower Grammar class made authentic looking Vietnamese hats, like those worn by rice paddy workers. And, the Five in a Row class read the book, "God Gave us Love." A very appropriate story to usher in Valentine's Day!
