World War II is over. The recovery can begin. But, a new kind of war is beginning. One that's very different than what we've known before. This one is known as the "Cold War." And, it's not being fought with guns and bombs. It's being fought with words and ideas; fears and threats. Communism is alive and well in Russia and under Stalin's rule, they want to expand it throughout Eastern Europe and then maybe even further. Americans are scared. We stock up on weapons and invent new ones. So do the Russians. The cold war will go on for decades. Despite the hostilities between the US and Russia, some fun things are happening in America. The Lower Grammar kids learned all about Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. The Upper Grammar class continued to work on their theatrical production. And, the Dialectic class made silly putty! Fun! The Five in a Row class read the book, "God Gave us Christmas." They did some Christmas crafts and activities, too!
