This week, we're back in the United States! And, we're learning about the things that are going on in the 1950's. The 50's are considered to be good times. Folks are moving to the suburbs, buying cars and TV's. The economy is expanding, technology is advancing, our president, Dwight Eisenhower, is a trusted leader. But, there are some problems brewing. Schools are segregated. So are busses, restaurants, hotels, and public bathrooms. And, communists leaders are in power in North Vietnam and are causing us some concern. The Upper Grammar class made a McDonald's drive in restaurant, to celebrate the development of fast food in America. The Lower Grammar class made cute school busses, to remind us of the segregation that still exists in our country. And, the Five in a Row class read the book, "Madeline." It's the delightful story of a young French girl, who is good at getting into trouble, but also good at solving problems!
