Our Tapestry students studied the Restoration Period in both England and the colonies this week. After several years of rule from tyrannical Puritan Lord Protectorate Oliver Cromwell, most of England welcomed back the monarchy in the form of Charles II, the Son of the executed Charles I. Over in the colonies, Charles was giving away land he didn't own. Fortunately, his son's takeover of New Netherlands and New Sweden was accomplished without bloodshed. These lands became the colonies of New York and New Jersey. The Rhetoric kids discussed these issues in depth. They also continued working on their colonial game boards and questions! The Dialectic class moved forward with their wigwam and colonies tourist brochures. The Upper Grammar kids made Native American weaved baskets while the Lower Grammar made a Native American leather crafted pouch necklace. The Five in a Row class read the book, "Night of the Moonjellies." This book is about the memories a young New England boy has about sailing out into the night with his Gram looking for Moonjellies. The kids then made colorful moonjellies of their own!
