This week, we learned about the establishment of the Pennsylvania and Delaware colonies. Our students learned about the philosophy and religious background of their founder, William Penn, and how his belief systems affected life in these colonies. Our history students also learned about Anne Hutchinson and the sad era of witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. The Rhetoric students also studied and discussed happenings in Europe during these times, focusing on the life and reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. They also started to play their board game creations! The Dialectic class finished up their wigwam and brochure projects. The Upper Grammar kids made colonial hornbooks while the Lower Grammar class played colonial games, made a colonial doll and ate colonial food! The Five in a Row class read the book, "How to Make and Apple Pie and See the World." This deliciously silly book takes the reader around the world to gather the ingredients for an apple pie! The kids then had fun "baking" their own apple pies!
