Co-op in Review: January 7, 2016

The year is now 2016.  And, the 45 kids and 13 moms are excited to get back to Co-op and finish strong with our second semester!  This week, week 18, our history students learned about the response of the Roman Catholic Church to the Protestant Reformation, known as the Counter-Reformation.  The Rhetoric class discussed these topics plus they learned about the reign of tyrant Phillip II of Spain and the terror of what the French Huguenots faced in France.  They also worked on their Renaissance Art Projects.  The Dialectic class made a model of a Leonardo Da Vinci invention--an Anemometer.  The Upper Grammar class also made models of a Da Vinci invention--but they made flying machines or Ornithopters.  In Lower Grammar, the kids were celebrating the Dutch by making pinwheels.  And, the Five in a Row class read the book, "The Boy Who Held Back the Sea." It's the classic Dutch tale of a boy who saves his city by plugging up the sea.  The kids then had a great time making authentic Dutch windmills.
