This was week 3, our final week studying Africa. This week, our reading focused on the wars, weapons, slaves and crafts of Africa. And, the kids learned more about the people and countries of southern Africa. The Dialectic class completed their Africa display boards and prayer journals this week. In class, they were each given an opportunity to present their research to the class. The Upper Grammar class made tiny and delicate thumb pianos--to celebrate the music and craftiness of the Africans. The Lower Grammar class did some beautiful African-style weaving with yarn. And, the Five in A Row kids read the book, "Harold and the Purple Crayon." This classic book takes children on an adventure with Harold, who uses his purple crayon to draw all sorts of people and situations. The kids then made awesome collages out of all things purple!
