Our last official co-op of the year! What a great year it has been. This week, we studied some famous Americans. We learned about Helen Keller, the inspirational woman who was both blind and deaf. We also studied Marie Curie who was an amazing scientist, who discovered two new elements and made huge advances in the study and development of x-rays. The Dialectic students studied Hawaii. They learned about the people, power struggles and development of this beautiful island territory. In class, they made Hawaii scrapbooks and lovely flower leis. The Upper Grammar and Lower Grammar classes combined to listen to a fantastic guest speaker. Aileen Tammany, a radiology technician and Grant's aunt, taught the kids about radiology and what is like to take x-rays. She also showed the kids a bunch of real x-rays, including a crushed skull and a chest with a knife in it. The boys were thrilled! They then made x-rays of their own out of q-tips. The Five in a Row class read the book, "Caps for Sale." The cap peddler looses his stack of caps to a bunch of curious monkeys, and then cleverly gets them back! The kids then made a cute monkey tree craft!
