Co-op in Review: January 26, 2017

Our Upper and Lower Grammar classes both studied the Underground Railroad this week.  They learned that it is neither a railroad or underground, but instead a system of safe houses and workers who move slaves secretly to safety and freedom.  The Lower Grammar kids made tin can lanterns.  The Upper Grammar class also made lanterns, and also made Underground Railroad game boards.  The Dialectic class made quilt squares--like those that would be used to communicate messages to the passengers on the Underground Railroad.  And, the Rhetoric class learned about the election of Abraham Lincoln and how it increased tensions and led to the secession of seven states from the Union.  They also continued to work on their Civil War flags.  The Five in a Row class read the book, "The Bee Tree."  They then made a cute bee hive craft!
