Gold rush! This week, our younger Tapestry classes studied the Gold Rush--the scramble for wealth that drew many Americans (and foreigners too!) to California. While only a few realized their dream of becoming wealthy, the Gold Rush did accelerate western expansion, as over 100,000 people streamed west by wagon, steamboat and ship, to make new lives for themselves and their families during this time. The Lower Grammar class made dioramas, while the Upper Grammar class panned for gold and made gold bars. The Rhetoric class studied the women's rights movement, in particular the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, and they also studied the frequent revolutions which were popping up all over Europe. They also played an Oregon Trail Board game! Our Five in a Row class read the book, Night Tree. They then made seeded bird feeders.
